Job Title: Healthcare Assistant (Surgery Support)
Location: Edinburgh, Haymarket
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £25,400 per annum

About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Healthcare Assistant to join their busy surgical clinic in Edinburgh. This role may also involve travel to support other surgical clinics.

You will support a multidisciplinary surgical team, assisting with pre- and post-operative care, patient flow, and clinical procedures in both Laser Vision Correction (LVC) and Intraocular Lens (IOL) theatres. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills within a modern, patient-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in surgical procedures, including LVC and IOL theatres, following training and competency assessments
  • Conduct pre-operative testing, support consent appointments, and provide patient information
  • Support patient discharge, updating medical records and scheduling follow-ups
  • Prepare, calibrate, and safely operate surgical equipment and lasers
  • Manage patient flow, reduce waiting times, and handle queries efficiently
  • Assist surgeons during procedures as a scrub assistant, including instilling eye drops and taking notes
  • Perform HCA duties in theatre, supporting patients and staff, including instrument decontamination
  • Participate in end-of-day activities: updating files, compiling reports, cleaning, managing stock and lens orders
  • Report incidents and actively contribute to patient safety, quality, and risk management
